1. Julia ChildEver since I did the post about making croissants I have been craving to watch the movie Julie & Julia and today I bought it at Target for only $4.50. Julia Child is such a fascinating person and if you haven't seen the movie yet you should definitely watch it. I also know that I need to get a copy of her cook book as soon as I can. Here is a link to the original Julie and Julia blog! 2. Things sorority girls will understandOne of my sisters posted this on facebook and I thought it was hilarious! Link here! 3. So lately my guilty pleasure has been looking at the Rich Kids of Instagram website. I am totally lusting over all of the expensive cars, houses, champagne, private jets... I could go on forever. So here is a list of things I would buy if real life had an unlimited money cheat code like The Sims (Rosebud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! anyone?). All the pictures below are from Rich Kids of Instagram. 1. a yacht 2. Dom Perignon, Armand de Brignac, and Monet for daysss 3. Private Plane so I could travel anywhere whenever I want 4. All the Cartier jewelry I could fit on my wrists 5. A fancy pool 6. This 7. In home movie theater 8. A boat for inside my yacht 9. Giant house on the beach 10. A crown of course 11. And an amazing walk in closet All of these are the crazy things I would buy, of course the first things I would do is pay off my student loans, pay off my parents house and let them retire somewhere nice, and donate to a charity but that stuff is boring to read about. :) What is the first thing you would buy if you had unlimited money? xoxo Natalie1. Go to class. I know it's hard sometimes but even if you're not paying 100% attention you'll still know more than people who aren't going to class. Sometimes professors will surprise you and give extra credit for attendance or a pop quiz or just tell you something about an assignment or upcoming exam that is really helpful. 2. Try something new! Being in a college atmosphere usually gives you endless opportunities to try something you've never tried before whether it's Indian food, rock climbing, or karaoke, just try something outside your comfort zone. 3. Sometimes there is something that is just more important than getting sleep. Earlier this year I waited in line for Jason Mraz concert tickets from 5:45am to 11am. Did I skip a class? Yep! Was I totally tired? Yep! Did I watch about 15 episodes of 30 Rock? Yep! Was it worth it to sit in the fourth row for one of my favorite artists for only $25? Totally. 4. Find the professors who are really passionate about their classes. I have found that these professors are the best ones. They may give really hard exams and not prepare you for them very well (you might do bad in the class), but when your professor is really passionate about a subject it helps you to become passionate about it too. Finding passion in college curriculum can be hard, so having at least one class a semester that you are excited about is always a good thing. 5. You won't like all your classes. You probably won't like most of them. So take a fun class if you can. 6. Sometimes your just gotta suck it up. Part of college is learning how to be an adult and part of that is that you're not always going to get your way, in fact you will almost never get your way. The best way to deal with this is by just sucking it up. If you can put up with all the bad stuff and just concentrate on all the amazing things happening in your life you'll be a much happier person. 7. Get dressed up for class. I know this is hard when your classes are early, trust me, I've had more 8 am classes than anyone should have to suffer through. When you wake up a little bit earlier and really spend time putting on a nice outfit and spending some time on your hair it really changes your whole day. You'll feel more confident and for me that means being more productive. I'm also less likely to take a nap if I'm dressed up. 8. Always carry an umbrella and wear comfortable shoes. You do a lot of walking in college and so you don't want to end up with blisters or get caught in the rain unprepared. 9. Don't be afraid to be a little tacky. If you want to dye your hair pink, go for it! If you want some outrageous decorations for your dorm, go for it! If you never want to wear shoes, go for it! College is a time for experimenting and finding out who you really are. If you need to be a little tacky to do that then good for you! 10. Figure out how to budget yourself. This is a really good time in life to figure out how money works. Budgeting your meal plan is a really easy first step. 11. Learn how to take care of yourself. I think the first time any college freshman gets sick they think they're going to die because that's when you realize that you don't have someone to take care of you. Learn about giving yourself medicine, how to stay healthy, and how to function while you're sick (because you don't get make ups in college, everything is due when it's due, no exceptions). Also learn when it is time to seek help and find out where the health center is. 12. Don't be shy. When you're a freshman everyone is in the same boat as you, no one has friends yet. You have to be the one to initiate conversation. Freshman year I was notorious for never going anywhere without talking to someone new. Whether it was the elevator of my dorm or a line at a dining hall I would just strike up conversation with whoever is nearest me. 13. Find your one thing. I think the majority of college students fall into the category of either being involved in nothing or being involved in everything. My advice is find one group or organization you're really passionate about and put your all into that. For me it is my sorority. If you concentrate on one thing you love you won't be stretched too thin and you'll have something to do that is more than just hanging out with friends. 14. Get to know the town you're in. One of my favorite things about Virginia Tech is Blacksburg. I love all the restaurants, boutiques, and even the movie theater that are unique to Blacksburg. If you can, find a twitter account or FB page or something that lists what's going on locally so you can take full advantage of the amazing town you're in. 15. There is nothing wrong with eating greasy food at 2 am, or even 4 am. It's bound to happen eventually whether its a drunken raid of a pizza place or a need of a late night study break burger. If you liked this post or are going into college check out this post! What is the best college advise you've ever received? xoxo NatalieTV dramas is kind of my catch all TV category. I mostly use it to describe shows that are an hour long instead of a half hour. Sooooo here it goes! 1. Walking Dead - I absolutely love survival and post apocalypse shows. What I love about this show is that it doesn't just show the initial trying to survive problems like acquiring weapons and food but it shows the long term survival stuff. It also explores how a zombie apocalypse effects humans on an emotional and moral level, not just physically. Definitely an addictive show. Heads up it's very graphic. 2. Orange is the New Black - Netflix originals are great. This show is funny and sad and happy and chock full of drama. Heads up there are some intense lesbian scenes. 3. Bones - If you're an NCIS fan this is a good show for you. It's got all kinds of nerd stuff in it but is also really funny and you grow to love the characters. This is a really good mystery type show. Another warning that this is really graphic, I used to watch it while I ate meals but I cant really do that anymore without getting sick. (the premise is dead bodies so I don't know what I was expecting.) 4. Lost - This is an oldie but goodie. If you've never seen Lost I feel like you have to watch it now. It's really good (another survival show) and it's a TV cult classic. 5. American Horror Story - The best thing about AHS is that every season is a complete story. New characters, new setting, new time period, and new element of horror, all the same actors. Heads up, if you can't tell from the title it is scary, probably the best TV horror I've ever seen. 6. Bates Motel - If you've seen Psycho you should watch Bates Motel, if you've seen Bates Motel you should watch Psycho. Bates motel is the modern day back story to Psycho. It's really interesting and they do a good job of incorporating elements form the original Psycho movie. You probably know what I'm going to say, heads up it's graphic. 7. The Vampire Diaries - Ok, TVD is one of my guilty pleasures. I was so anti vampire when Twilight came out that I didn't even give TVD a chance until one of my friends made me watch it with her. These are no sparking vampires in this show, they are blood thirsty murderers. If you like action and not a lot of romance you'll probably enjoy TVD because the romance stuff is kind of minor even though they play it up a lot in the advertisements. 8. Gossip Girl - Another cult TV show. People go nuts over Gossip Girl and I totally understand why. There is so much drama that you can expect from people who are too young and have too much money. Makes me want to be an Upper East Side elite. 9. Pretty Little Liars - If you like mysteries and shows that give you answers to only open up 100 more questions that will probably never get answered then this is the show for you! This show is my addiction. Sorry this is such a long post, I just have to do these shows justice! As always, let me know if you watch any of these and let me know what you think! xoxo NatalieBetween Ring Dance and my sorority's formals last weekend I did 4 peoples makeup including my own. As fun as it was my make up brushes got pretty dirty. I sat down on Sunday to clean them and couldn't find any cleaner so I decided to check pinterest for any DIY tutorials. So here it goes... Step 1I used one tablespoon of each and it cleaned all the brushes I have pictured. Step 2Mix it until it froths a little. Step 3The mixture should be really gross looking. Step 4Make sure to rinse until they don't feel soapy or oily anymore. Ring out any excess water in the brushes and reshape them if needed. So simple and you probably already have the ingredients. A lot of my brushes are now almost as clean as when I first got them so I would say it was a success! My only recommendation is to use a plate instead of a jar like i used because it was really hard to swirl the brushes with shorter handles. Based on this original pin. Let me know if you try this!
