Started today with getting brunch with my mom and Hank's. Hank's is a cute local diner that has amazing breakfast food. I got chip beef on home fries and it was to die for, I haven't had chip beef probably since my senior year of high school. Hank's is so cute during spring and summer because they decorate the whole porch area with beautiful flowers. How cute does my mom look here? After brunch we headed over to the Brandywine River Museum. Here are some of my favorite pieces! (I got yelled at for taking pictures haha) The Brandywine River Museum always has a lot of Wyeth family paintings since they were local artists. One of the most famous Wyeth painting is the pig one at the start of the slide show (by Jamie Wyeth). He painted it after visiting a farm and the pig in the portrait ate 22 of his oil paint tubes. The third painting, called "In a Dream I Met General Washington", was by N.C. Wyeth. I liked that it depicts the artist talking to George Washington during a battle. One thing that I found incredibly fascinating was a style of paintings called trompe l'oeil, which are meant to look so realistic that the viewer can't tell the difference between what is real in the painting and what isn't. So again some of the pictures got flipped in the slide show and I just can't figure out how to get them right side up so you'll just have to twist your head. One of my favorite things about the Brandywine River Museum is the actual building. Of course I had to hit up the gift shop! I bought this book about modern watercolor artists. It is full of beautiful paintings and information about the artists. I love water color art but I'm not very good at it so I'm hoping this book can inspire me. I also found this adorable picture book that was written from the crayon's perspective to the little boy who was drawing with them. Each page had a different color and a drawing to go along with it. So cute! If you ever get a chance to go the the Brandywine River Museum make sure to take it! I can't wait to go back in the summer and be able to enjoy their cafe, a walk by the river, and hopefully some new paintings. I'll end today's post with a selfie by the river. xoxo Natalie |
