I have been thinking a lot lately about professionalism. I think it stems from my soon-to-be budding career as an engineer and my lack of real knowledge about the working world.
One question I constantly ask myself is if my hair is unprofessional. I have really long hair (like down to my butt long) and I always wonder if my hair is too long for a working adult. Not that it's not work appropriate but does it give off a vibe of being young and childish? I feel like a more appropriate hair cut would be a bob or shoulder length hair because it looks more "grown up".
Going along with the thought of physical appearance and professionalism I've been thinking a lot lately on make up. When I go to a professional event (a career fair, interview, meeting at work, etc.) I like to put my best foot forward, or in this case face. I usually take extra care to make sure my foundation covers all my red spots, and that my concealer covers my under eye circles, and that my blush adds color to my face without being too overwhelming. All this being said I also try to look natural and not too overdone.
I think that the most work appropriate make up is ...
I am someone who doesn't leave the house without make up so naturally when I get ready for an interview I do a full face of make up. This got me thinking though, what about girls who never wear make up? This is definitely a question I have no answer for. On one hand I think that everyone should wear some make up when in a professional setting (boys too). Who couldn't use some concealer to brighten up their eyes and make themselves look more awake and ready for work? Who couldn't use some foundation to cover up some spots that might make your face look a little unclean? Who wouldn't need to fill in their brows to make them look less wild? To me, work make up is all about looking clean and ready for work, looking like, in general, you take care of your appearance.
I don't think that looks are everything or that by wearing make up you would be better at a job. Like I said before, I have no answers more than what I know works for myself. If you are a no make up wearing girl reading this please comment and let me know what you think!
I like this tutorial for no make up make up because she is good at keeping things subtle but clean, and has great advice about using your natural colors.
What's your opinion on work make up? xoxo Natalie
