So I recently really fell in love with an underwear company called Dear Kate. I have never actually bought or worn the underwear but I am in love with their advertising! It is so hard to find an underwear company that has advertising that shows a wide variety of women and celebrates the woman's body and doesn't sexualize it. I mean, it is women who wear women's underwear so doesn't it make sense to advertise to us, the average women, rather than have overly sexualize advertisements that are basically porn and a "fashion" show that is broadcast on TV and is mostly watched by men? *cough cough* Victoria's Secret *cough cough* And I guess in a way to try to jump on the bandwagon of loving your body and recognizing that there are so many different types of beautiful, we get some advertisements like these. Yep that's totally different from what we always see (sarcasm). So in a world where this is what we are used to it is so refreshing to see an underwear company that actually loves your body and makes you feel empowered. The first thing that caught my eye was an instagram picture with the hashtag #notcontrovercial. This was that picture. (also I totally want that shirt) Then I looked through more of their photos and they have so many pictures of women in their underwear all with the caption #notcontroversial. This really reminded me of the Meghan Tonjes #bootyrevolution. In case you don't know about this, Meghan had posted a picture on instagram of her in her underwear which was later taken down and she fought it and then started the booty revolution, full story below! But then Dear Kate did something even cooler. They did an ad with not just any women in underwear, and not just women of different shapes and sizes and colors in underwear but women of different shapes, sizes, and colors AND are women in the Tech industry. These are the women people need to start looking up to. They are examples of women who work in a field dominated by men, they are smart, and they can rock some undies while coding. These are the kind of ads that the world needs. I want to flip through a magazine or look up at a billboard and see women that are worth looking up to. The whole goal in advertising is to look at the people in the advertisement and say "wow I want to be them and this product is going to make me be more like them, and therefore make my life better". By showing advertisements that feature women who are diverse and intelligent, it shifts the characteristics that we look up to from just physical beauty to physical beauty and success. It creates an ideal woman that is more dynamic, who has more worth than just her outer appearance. If you want to read further I would suggest this article and also checking out the Dear Kate facebook page. Never forget that your body is #notcontroversial

1.Essie nail polish in haute in the heat - this nail polish is such a cute color! It is a really dark pink that almost looks red. The picture looks a little more hot pink than the actual color is but you get the idea. |
2.Victoria's Secret perfect coverage bras - These are so great! They are super comfortable and cute! And, bonus, they are 2/$49.50 right now which also makes them a great deal. |
3.The Body Shop pink grapefruit body butter - OMG I love this! I keep the travel size one at my desk at work for when my hands get dry and every time I put it on it smells like i just cut into a big, juicy grapefruit. I am serious this doesn't have a real fake fruit smell like most lotions. Plus it makes my skin so soft. |
4.Bath and Body Works Bellini Cafe candle - This scent is heaven. I have been burning this candle nonstop because it smells so good. It 's really fresh smelling, like you're walking down a cobblestone street and smell champagne and flowers from a little cafe and flower shop. |
5.
Victoria's Secret body sprays in Pink and Very Sexy - So I think it's obvious I went on a little VS shopping spree but they were having good deals so can you blame me? These scents are so great! The Pink one is really fresh and flowery smelling. It's great for day time. Very Sexy is more musky so it's more of a nighttime/going out perfume. Honestly another reason why I'm loving these is because they remind me a little bit of early high school when I was obsessed with the scent Love Spell. #throwback |
What are some of your favorites?

2. Rockateur blush by benefit - So I have been using a hand-me-down blush from my mom for ages and it really doesn't match my skin tone and it's beyond old (think like 5 years at least). I am such a make up junkie that I couldn't stand that my blush was so bad when the rest of my make up was so good (I've been investing a lot in nice make up lately). While I was in NYC last weekend I went to Benefit and told the woman "I'll buy whatever blush color you think matches my skin best". And I ended up with this one! I love it so much. The color is a perfect rosy pink, it has some shimmer but not too much, and it smells amazing! Every time I put it on I feel like I'm putting on some powder perfume. Also it doesn't bother my skin at all. That's what I call a win win.
3. The Body Shop - I used to go to The Body Shop all the time when I was younger because my mom loves their green tea line (the blemish fade is awesome) but I never got anything because I thought it was wildly over priced. I went again recently and I think they must have redone their pricing because everything was much more reasonable. My favorites are the 2 for $10 and 3 for $10 bins and the mini perfumes.
4. Hot Yoga - I was trying so hard to find a nice gym to join in the Albany area and was hitting a wall at every turn and a coworker suggested a hot yoga place by my office. Hot yoga is great! It is such an awesome work out and its also calming and relaxing (just make sure you're hydrated because you will sweat buckets). Also the place I go to does some cool classes like barre yoga (combines ballet and yoga) and iron yoga (combines weight lifting and yoga).
5. Spotify - I was starting to get really tired of Pandora and I've heard great things about Spotify and figured I'd give it a try. I totally love it because it's more customized than Pandora (and seems to have less ads) but I'm really struggling with figuring out how to work it. I'll keep you guys posted because my plan is to start doing my blog playlists on Spotify and just link them here.
6. Macarons - When I was in NYC last weekend I made sure to go to Laduree in Soho because I've always heard such great things about their pastries. I got 6 macarons and let me tell you I was in heaven! Those things were so good I could eat them forever. I want to buy the cook book so I can try making them on my own (future post? maybe ;) ).
7. Savina nail polish in Passion Pink - ok I'm not going to lie this formula is awful but I am so addicted to the color. And trust me I can not find this color anywhere else (I have about 10 neon pink nail polishes that basically all look the same).
8. Nook app - I have iBooks and the Kindle app but Nook is by far my favorite. I got introduced to it by my roommate because we have such similar taste in books and she wanted to share her books with me but she mostly reads ebooks. That is what is cool about the Nook app is that you can share books with your friends. It is awesome.
What are some of your June favorites?

2. Audrey Brooke Desire Flat - So I got these at DSW because I had a coupon and needed a new pair of nude flats (because they are essential!!) and was super excited when I found these! I am always super cautious about flats because you could spend a lot of money on them and then end up never wearing them because they're uncomfortable but these ones are so comfy! I can wear them all day at work and my feet won't hurt when I get home. Plus the cut out leather look is really in this season and I'm loving it!
3. 14 Hands Moscato - I just got this today and it is so sweet and light that it is the perfect wine for summer.
4. HelloGiggles - I believe I've mentioned it in a previous post before but Hello Giggles is a blog run by Zooey Deschanel and her friends. It is so cute and has the absolute best posts ever! I don't think I've found one yet that I don't like.
5. Lancome Photogenic Lumessence foundation - So I got pulled in to doing one of those promotional free trial things with Lancome where they give you a 10 day supply of foundation for free. Let me tell you I got hooked! This foundation is awesome! I have really sensitive skin so I am always really hesitant to try new skin products but this was super gentle and light and didn't give me any problems at all. It also gives a very nice matte finish that gives you a "photoshop" look.
6. Color Club nail polish in "Jackie Oh!"- This is the perfect neon pink shade for the summer! The picture doesn't give it justice at all because it is way prettier than that and much more neon.
xoxo Natalie
